Racer’s Biography

“Woody” Woodbury                       Car Number is 27 is a ‘73 Mustang Mach 1

                                                             Car Number 63 is a ’73 Camero

Current President of the IMCA Old Timers

Started as pitman in 1956 at the age of 12. Began driving in Colorado in 1962, while in the Army. Drove a ‘30 model A coupe that was chopped, channeled, and sectioned with a small block Chevy. Won rookie of the year at the age of 17. When he returned home, to Marshall, MN, in 1964 he built a ‘54 Ford Tudor with a 312 engine. He raced only in the southwestern part of Minnesota with that car until 1966. In 1966 Woody moved to the Twin Cities and then joined IMCA. Then he built a ‘58 Ford two door hardtop. He did two things with that car that went against tradition, he painted the car green and used the number 30 until he wrecked the car in 1967. Then in seven days, he built a ‘59 Ford four door. He drove that car until 1969 when he sold it. Then in 1970 Woody built a ‘64 Ford Fastback that he drove until 1972.

In 1975, when Woody decided to stop building cars and focus on just driving. He partnered with C. Thompson who built the cars. This is the part of his career where he competed in NASCAR and the in the 1980’s he competed ARCA racing. During this time he drove many different types of cars. In the mid 80’s, he quit racing to focus on business. Then retirement made him realize how much he truly loved building cars and socializing with others who enjoyed the same thing. Granted his first car which is the mustang took him 6 and a half years, from start to finish but he wanted it to be perfect. The first race the car got a first and a third, that to is as perfect as perfect can be.
