Grand Rapids, MN.
July 24, 2011.  Joe Dolphy of Talmoon, MN came out of retirement to race once again. After hanging up his helmet just over 42 years ago, the 80 year old Dolphy put on a racing uniform and a helmet and climbed back into the very same car that he retired in back in June 1969. Joe was considered a pretty good driver and car builder in the 1950's and 60's.The 1969 Ford Torino was owned by Charlie Mistelske of NE Minneapolis, built by Joe Dolphy and raced by Charlie and Joe in 1969 season. the Torino was parked in Charlies'  wrecking yards over the years. In September 2007 after Mr. Mistelske passed away, Joe Dolphy's son Paul was able to save the shell from the crusher. in 2008 Paul was able to locate the original Lynn quick change, the front safety hubs and wheels and tires that were on the car when it raced its last race in September 1969 at the Minnesota State Fair. A 429 engine and transmission were installed,  the car was displayed in 2009, late that year a current race seat and fuel cell installed and run at various events since then.       Thanks to the NVSR for putting on this event.

PAUL DOLPHY HEADS SOUTH 2010

In Early February (2010) I went to Daytona Beach and met up with my Dad, Joe Dolphy and brother Brian for some short track racing. We went to East Bay near Tampa for some Dirt Modified and UMP Latemodel Racing. To Daytona For the ARCA (Danica Patrick Show) and Bud Shoot-out. It was Cold.  Went to the Living Legends   Auto Racing Museum on Monday then went to New Smyrna for some Winged Sprint cars and East Coast modified racing on asphalt. The Living Legends brought their cars to the Beach on Tuesday. About thirty of them went down and back.(Slow of Course). We went up to Volusia for a couple nights to watch Big Block Modifieds and more dirt track racing.
What a week. Thanks to brother Brian and Dad, we had a blast.
